Ancient Magic

We had walked many hot, dry days through the snaking, steep Kimberley gorges. Then, late one afternoon, way high above the sighing pools, we followed shelving tracks into a side canyon and found a cave under a ledge. Strange dancing figures, bizarre ancient images, curiously elegant, like nothing we'd ever seen before in Aboriginal art, were etched on the sides of the entrance. [link]

As we ventured further in over the broken boulders through a narrow tunnel, we were amazed as the cave opened into a huge domed cathedral-sized space. All around in a wide circle we saw what seemed to be the tumbled ruins of Stonehenge-like standing stones. An ancient temple.

Exhausted, we sat and looked around the ruins in wonder as the late afternoon light streamed in from the one hole high in the domed cavern roof. The last piercing rays of the setting sun suddenly shafted to the central altar stone where, as we watched, a golden orb materialised, hovering, scintillating, filling the cavern with an extraordinary glow.

From afar the sounds of the distant gorge's sighing pools intensified, filling the cavern with a haunting lament.

As the sun shafting ray withdrew the orb disappeared...all became dark and so very very silent.

I'd love to see this and some of your other very unusual fractal art at #Creative-Obsessions, if you would be interested in joining this group

Thanks, but I already belong to as many groups as I can handle. Being on dialup rather limits my time online unfortunately.

Now that was something else. I love it when the images can be viewed as something not so abstract, and hence can have a story behind them. Excellent work.

Wow! Delighted to have provided some inspiration for this. The forms of the rock are almost spectral in the reduced light and the whole carries a hint of the Lovecraftian

A first faltering half-step on the path to your mystic grail and hopefully an all-in-one-flame result.

I'd rather thought Indy or Lara rather than Lovecraft.

That's a very fine obsession with Lara that you're displaying ;) I have, relatively recently, immersed myself in Lovecraft's complete published fiction, hence my particular preference. You'll think me odd (oh wait, you already do ), but I have never seen/played anything to do with either character, excepting excerpts :O

 Heh, heh, it's a 21stC spfx cgi thing. Lara & Indy are a couple of high profile & hence (usually) universally recognisable, iconic characters used in the gens XYZ0 retranslations of myths recorded by Lovecraft et al in 20th C.

Perhaps Janus [link] would twitch yr superstrings instead?

Then again you could consult here [link] under Silliness

So: nothing new under the sun? Plus ça change...? Where does this put the immanentisation of the eschaton via infinite ingress of novelty? Sometimes, I think it would be nice just to lie down and forget it all ;)

Indeed, I jest. I think my inability to communicate with anybody below the age of ...teen is approximately absolute. So perhaps I'll seek that... epi-fanny :giggle:
