Every transform must include a Linear=1. Linear3D is a allowed in substitution of Linear. You can do essentially anything else you want. No limits on transforms, moving, variations, or gradients.
I like this image but it is not a raw fractal and therefore should have been disqualified from this challenge. This is nothing personal, but using external bitmap graphics is like photomanipulation. You only do the image manipulation in Apophysis instead of Photoshop this way. You are able to do things using this plugin nobody could achieve using "normal" techniques. And you are probably nullifying the challenge constraints this way. (I have not tried the plugin by myself but had a look at the source code). Best regards
Thanx fr that. Yes I wondered about dc_image & whether or not it should be admitted to Challenge entries. But not being very clued in to the process I thought that somehow the image had been fractalised via the plugin, as it changes from the original bitmap image in wonderful ways once brought into Apo via the plugin. Does JWildfire allow its' use?
If what you say is correct, and I don't doubt it but can't say either way due to lack of source code savvy, I think Stan should be made aware, so he can adjust the rules accordingly. I took my cue for using dc_image from the submissions of others who have done likewise in these Challenges. I've used it here a couple of times now & not been challenged, so I had relaxed & decided it was OK when I submitted this.
Of course I respect the Rules & if this win is deemed invalid I will withdraw it. Stan can decide what to do.
I am not interested in creating fractals that are not raw fractals. I tried a few manips years ago but decided I preferred to stick to raw fractals, as that is where the challenges lie. Photoshop manipulations are just decorative art to me. Too easy. So your bringing this to my attention will cut out my use of dc_image in future, if, as you say, it does not produce raw fractal results.
I'll discuss this with a few others, including Stan, & get back to you
Hello zweeZwyy, thanks a lot for your kind reply And I thank you that you take this subject such seriously as I do and feel not offended by me. To be honest, I was really a little bit pissed off as I came to this site and saw the dc_image params on your flame. I was just searching for something different in the internet but had some hits for the plugin and its use in my search results, one of them is this: [link] name=Gallery&act=displayimage&album=lastup&cat=-234&pos=4#!prettyPhoto This is just a photo with changed colors I'm sure there are some "legal" uses of such kind of plugin and maybe you did it use for just picking some colors from an image - but one really can know that hardly whithout "recreating" the image by itself.
Currently there is no such plugin for JWildfire - but I had thought about a bumpmap plugin. In fact I have a prototype but it felt not right because it also enables it to use *any* image as bumpmap. This is very difficult subject, currently the plugin can not be used. My current attempt is to create some kind of multipass renderer in which you can use an image which was *calculated* in an earlier step.
I wish you some nice holidays and are looking forward to more challenges
Dearest fellow Deviant, life is too short for getting steamed up about these kinds of issues. We'll just sort it out. I know the feeling of coming to a page and finding things that offend one's firmly held views...been there, done that, had the rant...and after I just laugh at myself.
I mean...on the www how can any one of us know it all & get it right...with so many cultures & ways of expressing ourselves it's amazing we understand what we do ! We are all here to learn & sitting typing growls at eachother is such a time waster. Oh, yeah, I get serious, but not for long, much prefer to laugh at It All these days. So, no I'm not offended & I hope your bp has resumed its normal rate
I've sent Stan the Man a Note asking him to clarify the Challenge Rules re dc_image. he'll sort it. But if he lets my entry thru & allows dc_image in future, can you be happy with that? Anyway, we'll see. Best to know and then we can go forward comfortably.
As for the legalities....not my field of expertise.
If you follow the link to my original bitmap you'll see it's only a passing resemblance to image above. So no, I wasn't using dc_image for what you've suggested, not at all. I had constructed a whole series of simple black & white images based on Kufic script & experimented with them but not wanting to offend any religious fundamentalists, decided to use this whirlygig image finally as it gave such an interesting overall effect when I tweaked the Variables in dc_image. So what I was following was the fx simple black & white diagrammatic images would produce. The color was just a bonus. If you want to up yr bp again you could go here & here to see what I do when chasing color fx, but do let the steam settle b4 you come back at my jugular again, as I know this one will make you bite!
I went to the link but it is in German. I'll put it thru the translator & have a browse with it later as I see another fellow dc_image-transgressor there & I'm interested to see more of her work.
Yes, maybe this is a difficult subject but for me it's black & white - if we use it then it isn't a Raw Fractal, according to your reasoning. Whether it is accepted as part of the Apophysis toolbox for the Challenges - well that's for our good friend Stan to decide. Good luck with getting it sorted yr end in JWildfire.
Hello again and again thanks a lot four your reply - and yez, of coz, my bp has resumed its normal rate It was really a pleasure to talk to you and it only makes me sad that is occured on such a topic Best wishes ... and see you at the next challenge (The link I gave you was just an image of an castle or something (cant exactly remember) and is not that important because the images you linked use the same technique - and looked more intesting than the castle stuff )
